Each returning student wishing to live on campus the following year must participate in the Whitworth Housing Lottery, which takes place each April. This process is designed to give priority to students who have a higher class standing and therefore graduating sooner. To ensure a more diverse community, some spaces in every building are reserved for incoming students—both transfers and new freshmen.
Current students will come to the housing lottery with housing points (one point is awarded for each class level achieved) and a random lottery number. The more points a student has, the sooner he or she gets to pick a room. The random lottery number is used in case there’s a tie between individuals’ or groups’ housing points. Roommate pairs combine their housing points for their group and use the group’s lowest lottery number in case of a tie.
